GLAD Mapo
Your Seoul Retreat
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about GLAD Mapo, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name doesn’t exactly scream luxury, you know? But after staying there twice now (once for business, once because I actually wanted to), I can tell you this place gets it right in ways that surprised me. It’s one of those hotels that feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need, rather than just checking boxes on some corporate hospitality manual.
The thing that struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to capture this really authentic Seoul vibe without trying too hard. You’re right in the heart of Seoul, but it doesn’t feel touristy or sterile like some of the bigger chain hotels. The lobby has this warm, lived-in quality – there’s usually some soft jazz playing, and the lighting actually makes you look good in selfies (trust me, I tested this extensively). The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which honestly makes such a difference. I mean, you can tell when someone’s just going through the motions versus when they’re actually proud of where they work. The front desk manager, this incredibly patient woman who helped me sort out a late checkout situation, knew the neighborhood like she’d grown up there – gave me directions to this tiny bookshop I never would’ve found otherwise.
What really won me over, though, was the attention to details that actually matter. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Seoul, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed. The bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent water pressure (you’d be amazed how often hotels mess this up), and the bed… well, let’s just say I slept better than I had in months. They’ve got these blackout curtains that actually block light, which is crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag. The air conditioning works quietly – no weird rattling at 3 AM that makes you question your life choices. And here’s something I really appreciated: the walls are thick enough that you’re not listening to your neighbor’s phone conversations or Netflix binges.
The location puts you within walking distance of some genuinely great local spots. There’s this incredible Korean BBQ place about three blocks away that the concierge recommended – not touristy at all, just solid food where locals actually eat. The subway access is easy without being right on top of a busy station, so you get convenience without the constant noise. Parking can be a bit tight if you’re driving, but honestly, in this part of the city, you’re better off using public transport anyway. With an 8.8 rating, GLAD Mapo has clearly figured out that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity that so many places struggle with. It’s the kind of place I’d book again without hesitation – and actually have.

Guest Reviews
Excellent location very near to public transportation. A lot of restaurants around.
Clean and comfortable
Location is great
convenient location, just a few subway stops from most attractions around Seoul, access from Gongdeok station exit 8 (subway line 5/6) or exit 9 (AREX line, only 1 stop from Seoul station). Lobby has luggage storage and an Emart24 convenience store. The street behind hotel has Emart supermarket as well as many restaurants and coffee shops. Hotel breakfast has a good selection, and if you pay for breakfast in advance you can get a 10% discount. (Although breakfast closes early at 0930 ! ).
Everything was great! Location, staff, cleaniness, services, quietness, also in-building convenience store 👍😁
I’ve been to 20+ countries and Glad Hotel Mapo is easily the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at!
