Ellen House
Your Seoul Retreat
First Impressions
Walking up to Ellen House, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be something it isn’t — and honestly, that’s refreshing in Seoul. This three-star guesthouse sits quietly on a tree-lined street in Mapo-gu, tucked away from the main road chaos but close enough that you can hear the city humming. The building itself is modest, clean, and welcoming in that understated Korean way. I mean, you’re not getting marble lobbies here, but there’s something genuinely warm about the place that hits you right when you walk through the front door.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about Ellen House’s spot — you’re in Mapo-gu, which locals know is where Seoul gets real. Forget the tourist-heavy areas for a minute; this neighborhood gives you authentic Korean life without the markup. You can walk to Hongik University area in about fifteen minutes, where the nightlife and street food scene is incredible. The subway connections are solid too, so getting to Myeongdong or Gangnam is straightforward. What really sold me though was discovering this little 24-hour convenience store just around the corner — you know, those details that make a difference when you’re jet-lagged at 2 AM.
The Rooms
The rooms at Ellen House are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Korean guesthouse — compact but thoughtfully designed. Everything you need is there: clean bedding, decent Wi-Fi, and those heated floors that are absolutely perfect during Seoul’s chilly months. The bathrooms are small, sure, but they’re spotless and the water pressure is surprisingly good. I actually appreciated the simplicity after staying in some overly complicated hotel rooms. The windows let in nice natural light, and if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing the quieter side, mornings are genuinely peaceful.
The Neighborhood Experience
What makes staying here special is how quickly you slip into local rhythms. There’s a traditional market about ten minutes away where ajummas (Korean aunties) sell the freshest vegetables and kimchi that’ll spoil you for anywhere else. The coffee shops nearby aren’t the Instagram-perfect places you’ll find in Gangnam — they’re the kind where regulars read newspapers and students actually study. You’ll also find some fantastic Korean BBQ spots that locals frequent, where the meat is better and cheaper than the tourist traps. It’s Seoul without the performance, if that makes sense.
Why Guests Love It
The rating speaks for itself — couples especially seem to get what Ellen House offers. It’s not about fancy amenities or room service; it’s about having a comfortable, authentic base in one of Seoul’s most livable neighborhoods. The staff genuinely cares about helping you navigate the city, and they’ll give you directions to places that aren’t in guidebooks. For the price point, you’re getting clean accommodation, great location access, and that increasingly rare thing in travel — a place that feels real rather than manufactured for tourists. If you want to experience Seoul like someone who actually lives here, this is your spot.

Guest Reviews
The location is the best! near subway station (sinchon ext 5) within 5 mins walking distance and near Limousine Airport Bus stop as well. Super convenient for traveling from and to Airport and to places in Seoul.
Near many shops and malls. So, I had no hard time finding places to eat and shop. Not super crowded but not scary to walk at night alone. Near Hongdae and Ehwa station.
Convenience store was 2 mins away which is very convenient for nighttime snacks or grabbing water or drinks.
The staff is super friendly and reply message pretty fast. Whenever I need something, the next morning everything was solved. I was so lucky that the room was available and could be checked in before normal check-in time. So, I could sleep straight after my flight. She also allowed a bit later check-out time which was very kind of her.
The room smelled nice. All facilities are new and clean. Universal socket was provided.
I have no bad experiences at all while living here.
Amazing location, enough space for 2 people with 2 big luggage’s. Friendly staff who reply fast on any request. Will recommend!
Location was perfect.
Location is very good
Everything was clean, the wifi worked, the check-in was easy. It was also very close to the metro station and I didn’t have any issues with noise coming from the street. It was also nice to have a microwave in the room.
Very convenient location in Sinchon, near the subway and many convenience stores.
The room had everything that is needed. It was cheap and easy to check in.
The place is very good, confortable and enough space and services.
Quiet location and close to transport.
Everything js very practical in the room The bed was comfortable, the AC worked perfectly. It is very near to the subway station Sinchon, so it is easy to reach the places you should visit in Seoul. A good choice if you don’t want to spend a lot for a good accomodation.
