I mean, at bigger chain hotels, you sometimes feel like you’re just another room number, but here they actually remembered my name by the second day. The rooms are compact – this is Seoul after all, where space is premium – but they’ve used every inch smartly. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), and honestly, the bathroom was spotless with this rainfall shower that had better water pressure than my apartment back home. There’s something to be said for places that nail the basics perfectly instead of trying to wow you with unnecessary bells and whistles.

Location-wise, you’re not in the absolute heart of the tourist zone, which I actually preferred. It meant I could walk around the neighborhood in the evening and see how locals actually live – little convenience stores, street food vendors who don’t speak English but somehow communicate perfectly through gestures and smiles. The subway connection is solid, so getting to Myeongdong or Hongdae is easy enough, but you get to retreat to a quieter area at night. I noticed the rooms facing the street can get a bit of traffic noise during morning rush hour, but nothing a good pair of earplugs can’t handle. What impressed me most was how clean everything stayed – I travel a lot, and you can tell when a place has good housekeeping standards versus when they’re just going through the motions. The common areas always looked fresh, and my room was consistently spotless. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which is refreshing in a city where you can easily get caught up in all the glitz and flash. If you’re looking for a solid, no-nonsense base to explore Seoul without paying luxury prices, D House gets it right.
